Alzheimer’s Genetics
Alzheimers is a genetic mutauion. It can be passed on to children.[1] People with down's syndrome are know to develop alzheimer's. Chromosome 21 is a mutated gene that is associated with Familial Alzheimer's disease(FAD) and Alzheimers disease(AD). Genetic defect caused the formation of a defective amyloid protein. The defective amyloid protein is deposited in certain places in the cerebral cortex. It destroys neurons and produces the clinical symptoms of AD[2] In a very few families, people develop alzheimer's disease in there 30s, 40s, 50s. Many of these people have a mutation,or mermanent changes, in one of three genes that they inherited from a parent. Most people with alzheimer's disease have late-onset Alzheimer's, which usually developes after age 60. many studies have linked a gene called APOE to late-onset alzheimer's. The only cause of death among the top 10 in the united states that cannot be prevented , cured or even slowed. Alzheimers is the sixth leading cause of death in the country.[3]
